THE THING (1982) Kurt Russell, John Carpenter, Daybill, Near Mint

Movie Synopsis, Movie Poster, Artist & more

The Thing (1982) is a science fiction horror film directed by John Carpenter, Starring Kurt Russell. it's actually a remake of the 1951 film The Thing from Another World, based on the 1938 novella Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell Jr. The story follows a group of researchers in Antarctica who encounter a shape-shifting alien that can imitate any organism it comes into contact with.

Kurt Russell plays the role of R.J. MacReady, the helicopter pilot for the research team. When a Norwegian research team nearby is mysteriously wiped out, the American team investigates and discovers the remains of a strange creature and a mysterious spacecraft buried in the ice. As they bring the alien specimen back to their base, it thaws and begins to wreak havoc by assuming the forms of the researchers. Paranoia sets in as they struggle to determine who among them is human and who is the alien imposter.

The film is renowned for its tense atmosphere, groundbreaking practical effects by Rob Bottin, and its psychological horror elements. It's often regarded as one of the greatest sci-fi horror films ever made and has gained a cult following over the years. The ambiguous ending has also sparked much debate and analysis among fans and critics alike.

What do your condition ratings mean?

While the industry does have a few condition rating standards, there is no movie poster condition rating system that has become the accepted standard world wide. This unfortunately makes condition terms vary from movie poster dealer to movie poster dealer. Terms like Mint, Near Mint, Very Fine, Fine, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor, seem to be universal to most condition rating standards, but most standards still lack definition about what and how many flaws/defects/damage defines a specific condition level. For more information on how Movie Posters Australia grades the condition of its movie posters, daybills, lobby cards and other ephemera please see out Movie Poster Condition and Grading page.
