Movie Synopsis

Dr. Anton Phibes, a celebrated concert organist and scholar in music and theology, supposedly died in a 1921 Swiss car crash after his wife Victoria's tragic surgery-related death. Surviving with speechlessness and disfigurement, Phibes used prosthetics and acoustic knowledge to regain his voice, reappearing in London in 1925. Convinced Victoria was a victim of medical negligence, he sought vengeance through elaborate murders inspired by the Ten Plagues of Egypt, using an amulet marked with Hebrew letters symbolizing each plague. Inspector Trout linked Phibes to the deaths of doctors tied to Dr. Vesalius, who had treated Victoria. Finding Phibes's amulet and his mausoleum empty, Trout and Vesalius faced a relentless pursuit as Phibes continued his killings. Holding Vesalius's son hostage, Phibes forced a deadly challenge where Vesalius succeeded in saving his son from imminent acid death. Despite Vulnavia's demise, Phibes sealed himself with Victoria in a sarcophagus, evading capture as darkness fell upon his final act of vengeance.

The Abominable Dr Phibes (1971) Directed by Robert Fuest and starring Vincent Price, Joseph Cotton, Hugh Griffith and Terry Thomas.

FAQ

Who is Movie Posters Australia?

At Movie Posters Australia, the love and conservation of movie posters comes first, and we like to share this passion. Our commitment to quality means we will provide high quality memorabilia to our customers. Posters are carefully chosen and authenticated to ensure originality and value. We want our customers to trust MPA, so we always try to be as open and transparent as we can, provide detailed condition information and images, to ensure customers are comfortable and confident in their purchase.

What do your condition ratings mean?

While the industry does have a few condition rating standards, there is no movie poster condition rating system that has become the accepted standard world wide. This unfortunately makes condition terms vary from movie poster dealer to movie poster dealer. Terms like Mint, Near Mint, Very Fine, Fine, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor, seem to be universal to most condition rating standards, but most standards still lack definition about what and how many flaws/defects/damage defines a specific condition level. For more information on how Movie Posters Australia grades the condition of its movie posters, daybills, lobby cards and other ephemera please see out Movie Poster Condition and Grading page.
