Directed by Julien Temple, it stars Geena Davis as Valerie, a manicurist whose fiancé, Dr Ted Gallagher (Charles Rocket), has become distant. Valerie discovers he has been unfaithful. She is ready for a change, but not one from outer space.

A spaceship carrying three furry aliens crashes into Valerie's swimming pool. The visitors from Jhazalla are Mac, Wiploc and Zeebo, played by Jeff Goldblum, Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans. Valerie soon discovers they are friendly. With help from her flamboyant friend Candy Pink (Julie Brown), she takes the trio to a beauty salon. Their shaggy coats are shaved away, revealing three handsome men eager to discover Earth.

As the aliens explore 1980s Los Angeles, they learn local customs through television and nightlife. Their enthusiasm leads to comic misunderstandings. Valerie and Candy help them navigate the dating scene, while Mac develops a special connection with Valerie. His kindness and curiosity contrast with Ted's behaviour, giving Valerie a chance to reconsider what she wants from love. Wiploc and Zeebo add to the group's comic adventures.

The supporting cast includes Michael McKean as Woody. Brown's song of the same name, released on her 1984 EP Goddess in Progress, inspired the film. Music is central to its identity, with a score by producer Nile Rodgers. Temple gives the production vivid colours, playful fashions and observations of Valley culture. Filming took place around Los Angeles, including Studio City and the famous Randy's Donuts landmark in Inglewood.

Blending science fiction, romance, musical comedy and 1980s pop culture, Earth Girls Are Easy celebrates friendship, self-discovery and romance. Davis brings warmth to the story, while Goldblum, Carrey and Wayans form a memorable comic trio. Brown's role as co-writer and performer gives the movie its distinctive musical foundation. Its unusual premise, cast and exuberant period styling have helped it remain a cult favourite.
